Do you like the name Oleander?

It's a flower and YES I know what kind of a flower this is...I don't care much for the meaning, but I like the name itself.

It's pronounced Oh-lee-an-der.

NO, I'm NOT naming a kid that...just wanted to see what you guys think of this name.

I think it's a poetic and pretty name...kind of like a storybook princess name.

Do you like the name Oleander?
I do yes.... I know someone named Orchidia.
Reply:Well, if it's for a character, then yeah, it's a nice name.

But for a real life person, no. Not really-
Reply:LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! I think it is cute and Ollie as a nickname. I love it.
Reply:Yes i like it
Reply:It does have a pretty sound to it. I like the sound of Leander for a boy. behindthename.com says:

"LEANDER

Gender: Masculine

Usage: Greek Mythology (Anglicized)

Pronounced: lee-AN-dur (English) [key]

From the Greek Λεανδρο? (Leandros) which means "lion of a man" from Greek λεων (leon) "lion" and ανδρο? (andros) "of a man". In Greek legend Leander was the lover of Hero. Every night he swam across the Hellespont to meet her, but on one occasion he was drowned when a storm arose. When Hero saw his dead body she threw herself into the waters and perished."
Reply:No way.
Reply:No, I don't really like it.

Reply:no
Reply:Yeah, it is a great name for a character .. or even as a middle name . maybe you could spell it differently too - Oleyander?
Reply:Dreadful
Reply:No not a good name at all
Reply:No ..its a flowering plant !

The End
Reply:I loved the book (Astrid would be a really cool name as well, and I got it from reading White Oleander lol), and even with its origin being a poisonous plant, I would love to use it. Oleander is actually really pretty in real life, as in actual flowers.

I'd probably chicken out of using it though as a first name, but would probably use it as a middle name. As a first name though, it would be so pretty and beautiful (the princess thing really applies well here), and she still has options for more normal middle names - Ollie, Andy, Lee.

Good luck!
Reply:i dont personally like it, you have to think of the shrtened name Ole? or andy?!x
Reply:THAT IS SO FUN TO SAY!!!! :P
Reply:Yes, its storybook, if you like poison. Check out the movie "White Oleander", or the book for that matter. I am not sure if you want that connotation associated with your daughter, not just the poison but the poisonous mothering done in the story.
