Book Suggestions?

I love to read and was just wondering if you had any suggestions. I HATE classic books. NO old authors like Hemingway or anything like that. I like books based in today's time period or historical fiction. My favorite book is white oleander if that can give you a hint at what I like. And I love books in series but no Harry Potter, Sisterhood of the traveling pants, or gossip girl. And I like a good romance.

Any book by Rachel Hawthorne!

They are all about romance, friendship, new experiences, and life changes. Some of her best include Love On The Lifts, Thrill Ride and Caribbean Cruising. Some of her books connect (same characters), and are similar, but they are not exactly a series you have to read in order.

Nora Roberts: All of them! My favorites: The Mackades; The MacGregors

Hannah Howell: Anything about the Murrays. My favorite: Highland Warrior

Lisa Kleypas: Then Came you; Dreaming of You

Julie Garwood: Usually has some mystery to it as well. My favorite: The Bride

Reply:Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plumb series is great. Start with the number books "One For The Money" is the worst of the series, but it does a good job establishing the main characters.



Tim Dorsey's books are a riot for adults. I recommend "Cadillac Beach" but "Florida Roadkill" starts the books. His hero Serge is one of a kind. Warning his books features lots of drug use, violence, strong language, and lots of well, kinky sex. You will never look at Florida the same way again.



For historical fiction, try Bernard Cornwell for military adventures.

about a boy's life in a WWII setting. The book goes through his life as a boarding school student meeting a friend that has interests completely different from him, and how he handled life situations.
Reply:Have you tried "Atonement" by Ian McEwan? If you've already seen the movie, it may not be as riveting, but it's fantastic. Also, any books by Neil Gaiman are truly original, but I'm a bit bothered by anyone who is deterred by the classics, which makes me wonder why I'm even wasting my time offering advice to someone so close-minded when I could read something by, oh I don't know, Ernest Hemingway or Oscar Wilde. But at least you are reading, even if it's not the books that pretty much grounded literature.
Reply:"Sandstorm" by James Rollins. It's set in modern times in the US and Oman. It's sort of an archaeological adventure story.
